Bookkeeper for a contractor

Get line items out of a PDF, not just the total at the bottom

The letter

The invoice PDF shows the total fine, but I need each line item in Excel for job costing. Typing them is killing my week.

What I already tried

Adobe export and online converters — they drop columns or merge cells wrong.

What done looks like

Each line item is its own row with description, qty, and amount.

Used Tabula on the PDF table region, exported CSV, cleaned merged cells in Excel with a fixed template.

Link: Tabula

What you still do by hand: You pick the table area on each PDF layout once.

Cost: Free desktop tool.

Exported to Excel from Adobe, then ran a short cleanup sheet that splits combined cells into rows.

What you still do by hand: Cleanup sheet is yours to keep; run it after each export.

Cost: Adobe subscription if you use their export.
